Our Weekend Trip – Thursday
This was the last weekend that we had anything really fun planned since school started on Monday. We left Thursday and headed to the Bear Lake area without a reservation for a camping spot…thought we’d be able to find one okay. While looking for a campsite we headed up St. Charles Canyon, ID and went to the Minnetonka cave. It was pretty cold in there – a whopping 40 degrees. The people at the cave gave anyone who didn’t have a sweater or jacket to wear a sweater to wear during the tour. At the beginning of the presentation before entering the cave the tour guide was giving warnings about pack rats and bats, which scared Dylan so he didn’t want to go, but I forced him. Here are a few pictures of the cave.

Dylan did fine at first, but he really didn’t want to be in there so about half way through the cave I took him back out and waited for the other kids to finish. On our way in the cave there was a pack rat sitting on this light box, just sitting there. It even let people pet it, although we weren’t one of the ones that did. I thought it would be gone on our way out, but it wasn’t, it was still sitting there so I took pictures.

It was pretty cute, and looked more like a mouse than a rat. It was so curious about what was going on and when I got close it was smelling me.

A little further towards the exit there was another pack rat, it was also very curious, and cute.
Dylan was happy to get out of the cave and eat a pop tart. He was more entertained by the chipmunks that were running all over. After the kids got out of the cave we went back on our quest to find a camping spot. We found a few up the canyon, but they weren’t that great so we kept looking. We drove ALL the way around Bear Lake, and every campground was full. It was so late that we stopped for dinner when we ended up back in Garden City, UT. After we ate we went back towards Logan searching for a place to stay. We ended up at Bear Mountain Resort. By the time we decided on a spot and got camp set up it was after 9:00 and DARK that Matthew was really scared and started crying. He said the place was creapy…I think it’s because he didn’t get too much of a chance to check it out before we settled in to bed – by morning he was fine. I was so tired and cranky I was threatening to just go home so Trevor decided he would be nice (cause he kind of the reason Matthew was freaked out) and slept in the van with Matthew. At that point I didn’t care where anyone slept, I just wanted them to sleep so they would be rested for the next day.
